This garden build was effectively completed in January with the planting due in March but Storm Eunace brought a neighbour's tree down onto the fencing which has basically meant 3 months of delays to much of the planting, which will be completed this week.
The hardscaping has an industrial feel with concrete furniture and patios and Corten steel detailing so I wanted the planting to be particularly naturalistic and soft to provide a contrast to the hard minimal lines of the hardscape.
A large storage box has been painted the same colour as the fencing and has a sedum green roof which provides an everchanging backdrop to the concrete sofa/planter.
The wildflower turf has been fantastic with an ever changing tapestry of flowers, providing a semi transparent screen between the back patio and the lawn.
The main flower bed includes variations of the varieties in the wildflower meadow including Achillea 'Cloth of Gold' and Centurea 'Jordy', along with pollinator friendly herbaceous perennials including Sanguisorba 'Pink Tanna', Erigeron karvinianus and Geranium Rozanne to provide a long season of colour. These are supported by evergreen structural shrubs including Hebe's, Viburnum and Amelanchier lamarckii.
The striking geometric tiles and concrete sofa/planters has been complimented with a bright yellow furniture set designed by Jennifer Newman.
I look forward to sharing finished pictures of the garden next week.
